Thailand | Glenn
I was fortunate to spend April 2015 in the friendly and fun-loving Thailand.
It was my 6th trip to Thailand and the first for our little man Ashton (now 7 months old). This trip would be extra special as Ashton would be meeting his grandparents for the first time. You see, my fiancé’s parents are based in Thailand and having not been in Australia for the birth, this was their first opportunity to see their first grandchild.
To say the grandparents were a little excited was an understatement. They took full advantage of their time with Ashton and gave mum and I a few weeks off from the full-time role of parenting. It was heaven!
We were lucky enough to be in Thailand for their Songkran festival which is a three day celebration of the Thai New Year. It is basically the world’s biggest water fight where the Thais take to the streets with buckets, hoses, super soakers and anything they can get their hands on to give a good soaking.
The water fights hold greater significance than a simple opportunity to have fun and cool down during the hottest month of the year (it averaged 40 degrees each day we were in Thailand). The drenching washes away the sins and evil of the past year and marks a clean slate for the new year ahead.
The last 12 months have been life changing to say the least. My partner and I purchased our first home and had our first child. I believe to grow as a person you need to continually challenge yourself, and with that in mind my next challenge is to learn Thai. With future trips to Thailand a certainty, the goal is to be reading and speaking Thai as my lovely fiancé and I will be back in Phuket to tie the knot in March next year.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Thailand trip. It has become a favourite destination for ours for a multitude of reasons including family, Thai food, Songkran festival, and the friendly Thai people.
